In this turn of the century tall tale from America’s Southwest we learn that in fact on the driest days of the year in Arizona you can see frog’s capturing lightning bugs. These little fellas eat so many of the bugs that they light up like a jar.

The Outdoor Watercolor Learning Experience
A couple of notes about illustrating with watercolor.
- The visual acuity of the paint covering up line work some times robs the viewer of the story in the pencil/pen.
- If you create around basic shapes it makes the overall composition more powerful. The frog perched on the tilting gas pump creates an upside down “L” shape that brings you to the sunset/mountain/desert.
